Amazon has announced its newest Kindle model, which will be available for sale on the 10th of April. The device has 4 front LED lights, Audible support, as well as a free 3-month subscription to Kindle Unlimited. All that for only $89.99.
Basic Features
This is an upgraded version of the previous model. It has a 6 inch E Ink Carta display with a resolution of 800ร600 and 167 PPI. It is an updated electronic ink technology for better contrast, compared to the previous model.
The all-new Kindle features 4 GB of storage and a battery that lasts for weeks. With the 4GB of RAM, you can holster your Amazon collection, as well as books that you can sideload at any time. Also, for a limited time, gives you three months of Kindle Unlimited for free (a $30 value) when you order the device. You can take advantage of this offer if you want. The device comes in two colors only, black and white.
You can also listen to Audible audiobooks via Bluetooth. You will need a pair of Bluetooth headphones, earbuds or speakers. 4GB is not much storage for audiobooks, so you will only have room for less than six of them.
Pricing
As stated above, the all-new Kindle will be available for sale on April 10th for a retail price of $89.99 (in the USA).
A previous Kindle owner -like me- can trade in the device to receive an Amazon.com gift card for the appraised value. You can also get a 25% discount on a new device, including the all-new Kindle. Last, but not least, you can buy a cover for your new Kindle for $29.99.
My verdict
The new generation of the basic Kindle is a decent device for anyone who wants to enter the world of eBook readers. It does that – read eBooks. If you want to read books without any distractions, the newest Kindle model is a great choice for you to start.
That said, if you are more familiar with eBooks and Kindle, I’d suggest the pricier Kindle Paperwhite. It features a higher res (300 PPI) screen, waterproofing and at least double storage (8 or 32GB). Meaning you’ll have more room for audiobooks. It’s a bit more expensive, starting at $130. The highest-end Oasis, meanwhile, has a bigger screen (7 inches) and is starting at $230.

Great Content and Information!
What a concise and thorough article. I found the post very detailed and Informative. So so many useful tips and tricks all on one page! Wonderful! I bookmarked to look further.. I have always loved Amazon products and the pricing are not on the high side. The new front light resolution is top-notch and also the memory space. Thanks for the eye-opener on this product

Hey Ola,
The device is improved, compared to its predecessor, and, as I noted in the review, it is a great entry-level choice indeed. If there is anything else you want to know, please drop me a line.

Thanks for writing this review on cheap all-new Kindle with front lights. I must commend you for the job well done for taking the time to write this article and also find out all the new features this new Kindle has. I have not used this new version but reading this article I already for in love with it especially the waterproof aspect of it

The one thing that stands out with this new basic Kindle reader edition is that it is extremely compact. That means for road trips it would be ideal (or for camping, fishing, or hunting trips too, in my case). The battery life is really good, and although the resolution is not the best, the price is the best!
I have the bigger model and like it for around the villa, but it is not so practical for travel due to the size and to a lesser degree the weight. I have to carefully pack as the limits are getting ever tighter when flying and I do not like paying overweight charges.
Your review gave a thorough and complete picture of the device and the price is not much when you consider all the perks you get with it. I will buy this for yet one more device (I am a techie guy that loves gadgets) that will travel with me. I have to make decisions already on what stays and what goes with me!
Thanks and I’m looking forward to getting this delivered!
Hey David,
I have a 2nd generation Kindle Paperwhite, and I’m very happy with it. The only thing it lacks, compared to the all-new Kindle is the Audible capability, which I do not use much – although it can be of great use with some Kindle Unlimited books.
I consider the size great. I use it for traveling as well as at home. In fact, I keep it next to my bed, to read at night, without disrupting my spouse’s sleep with lights.
Thanks for stopping by!

I’m happy to read this. This is one of the best innovations I’m happy to read about. With this, I will be able to explore the world of ebooks with style. I’m also happy about the battery that lasts for 1 week that means I can easily go anywhere with it, without the fear of running out of battery provided my stay is within 1 week.
Hey Marshall,
The battery lasts for much more than a week. It might last for 4 weeks sometimes, because the screen’s consumption is minimal, and there are no notifications. So, you can really set it and forget it ๐
