History of ebooks Infographic

We all believe that eBooks and eBook readers are quite novel new inventions, but the truth is that the history of ebooks is quite longer than what we think. The conceptualization of ebooks dates back to 1930, and the first eBook reader, the Rocket, was introduced twenty years ago, in 1998. That same year, the first ISBN was issued to an eBook.History of eBoohs header

Wow! The year 1930? That is incredible. I always thought eBooks were new to this generation due to technology and all modern things from this 21st centaury. It is incredible to see the history is far far back, That shows us that people invent things further than our own mind can think of.

    Marios,

Interesting history of ebook. Who would have known the ebook goes all the way back to 1930! The human mind is amazing, and usually it is just about technology playing catch up with our imagination. By the way, any comments on the Kindle Oasis? I used to own a Kindle. Served me for quite a few years before it passed out. These days, I’m reading off my phone but the screen is a bit small. I like the Kindle that it doesn’t distract me with text messages, emails…

      Hi, Jude.

Yup, the ebook goes way back – more than anyone could have imagined.

Regarding the Oasis, I’d say, based on the reviews and the Kindle Paperwhite, that it is a great purchase. A bit of expensive one though. You could buy the basic Kindle if you want audio capablilities, or the Paperwhite if you don’t want them

      Regards,

I remember buying the original Kindle back in 2008. At the time, I told my wife that it would be a game changer. Looking today at how my son carries a Chromebook to school and barely uses textbooks at all, I can see how far we have come. I have noticed that people still do like physical books, especially for kids. When my eight year old reads chapter books, it is always on paper.

True, a lot of people use eBooks nowadays. eBooks have many advantages, compared to paper books and I use most of them. A dedicated device’s (e.g. a Kindle’s) advantage over Chrome books or tablets is that there are no distractions at all. No Social Media, no messaging, no emails, no music. Even the browser is very primitive and has the absolute necessary functionality.

Thanks for stopping by. Keep reading!
