The Kindle family has already completed 10 years in the ereader market. In conjunction with the Kindle Store and Kindle apps, it has boosted the ebook and ereader industry, helping millions of people read without having to carry physical books.
Ebook Friendly has created a great infographic in order to celebrate the anniversary. You can check out the great infographic on Kindle and its history below.

Hi! I like your review about kindle ebook and the 10 year history. I like to read myself and some I read from ebook. I read them on my device or download it to read later. It has a great advantage, I don’t have to carry the book anywhere I go and I don’t have to buy it. Ebooks cost less than having to buy the book itself. So yes, kindle is very handy, I agree with you and thanks to amazon we are able to enjoy this convenience.

Hi, Rebecca
Thanks! It is not my review, the Infographic was created by Ebook Friendly, one of the best eReader blogs. I agree that the Kindle and the Kindle Store revolutionized the eReader/eBook industry.

That’s a very cool infographic that Ebook Friendly created, Marios. It’s amazing to see just how far Kindle has come in just a decade!
It always amazes me that Kindles are still around since you can do much of the same with a good tablet – if not more. However, I know one of the main reasons people prefer a Kindle is to focus on reading and for the extraordinary battery life. I’ve read they can get up to 28 hours on just one charge.
I’m looking forward to reading more here at Everything About Ebooks…thanks for creating such a great resource!

Jason,
Thanks for your kind words. I beleive that Kindle is still here because they do one thing very well – allow you to read eBooks. The extraordinary battery life as well as the ePaper display are the main factors contributing to that. I’ve mentioned a few times that I can read at night without any lights on or being exposed to a tablet’s blue light.
Hi Marios,
Wow has it been 10 years already? Kindle is still going strong! I love the infographic you have shared to better understand Kindle. I’m not a user myself, but my mom is and I just sent her the link.

Donna,
Thanks! I like the Kindle, I believe it’s here to stay – and so is the eBook technology and industry ๐
Good post and good information. I liked looking at the history of e-readers and seeing how far Kindles have come. The water-proofing option was a grand-slam move Amazon made. What do you think the future of the e-reader will be like? What other advances might we see in the next 10 years?
Hello!
Good question ๐ I was reading the other day about a new screen technology emerging, called ClearInk, which is color and much better than the eInk/ePaper technology that contemporary eReaders use or LCD/OLED/Retina that phones/tablets use.
Also, I believe that with the new screen technologies, we might see interactive eBooks, with sound and video,

Thank you for the information. My family enjoys reading ebooks while traveling or while sitting in a waiting area before an appointment. Having the water-proof Oasis is probably the best e-reader investment I’ve made. We’ve had pool water splashed and drinks spilled on them, but instead of worrying we just dry it off and move on.
Hey Javier,
It is true that a waterproof Kindle is a great convenience for the reader. It is frequently used by the pool or at the beach, so this is a very useful feature.

It is truly amazing how fast time flies. I didn’t believe it at first when I read that the Kindle is 10 years old. That seems impossible. I love the infographic, that is a fantastic way to outline the history of the Kindle. I actually had to look to see when I bought my wife her PaperWhite model and was surprised it was in 2012 when they first came out. It’s fantastic they finally have a waterproof model. Thanks for sharing this, good stuff!
Hey there!
Yes, time really passes by, and the Kindle line is already established. I never expected that it would be so popular and so easy to read books on a dedicated device.
I bought my PaperWhite in 2014 and I’m reading almost every day because of it.
Thanks for stopping by ๐
Wow, kindle has such a short history which was very surprising. My father bought four to five kindle fires when they first came out. Our family still uses them nowadays. Many people like to compare them to the iPads, but in my opinion, kindles are their own unique tablets. They are meant to be used for reading books which I think is really awesome. I still believe that the normal black and white kindle is the way to go when it comes to reading. There won’t be that weird “screen glare” when you are reading out in the open. Not to mention, the battery lasts a lot longer. What about you? Which was your favorite kindle reader?
Hi, Bill
True, Kindles are one of a kind devices. I like the fact that I can read without distractions – no music, no notifications, no calls, no messages. Just reading. The new Kindle Oasis adds sound, so that I can listen to audiobooks on the same device.
I like the new Kindle Oasis – I will probably buy the next generation alongside a Kindle Unlimited Subscription, but I own – and adore- a previous generation Kindle Paperwhite. Many times I read with Airplane Mode On. I just download the books and start reading ๐
What’s your favorite Kindle?
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great new year! ๐
Hi Marios,
I find it fascinating; Kindle began with 88,000 books. Then I added 124 a while later LOL. Or, 124 eBooks. Kindle rocks. Both from a reader and self-publisher perspective, we can enjoy fine reads and also churn out helpful eBooks regularly, helping the world and boosting our passive income in the process. I probably need to buy a Kindle to get a feel for the process on the reader end but am so busy writing these days that I’ve little time for reading. I do peer over my wife’s shoulder as she’s reading sometimes.
Ryan
Ryan,
I like reading on the Kindle. Very easy, and no distractions. I can even read offline. I just need to go online every once in a while to synchronize my device.
I also find a lot of free Kindle ebooks, so, I don’t really bother buying much – unless it is something I really want to read ๐
Thanks!
Marios
Hi there Marios,
I can not believe it has been already 10 years. Time flies fast, doesn’t it?
All right, I don’t know why but lately I love reading the content in infographics than in posts actually. Probably it’s because the content is a lot easier to consume and diversified into sections better.
This is my first time into your blog and I had a great time, definitively will visit back.
Thanks again
Cheers,
Darleen

Hi Emma,
Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by!
Marios
When I look a the infographic that celebrates ten exciting years of the Kindle, the main thing of the success is the convenient read, I’m looking forward to reading more about everything about the ebook. But now I know the extreme disadvantage of that. Thanks for stopping by.
Hey Sathish,
What, in your opinion, is the extreme disadvantage of that?
